Kicks for Causes

A charity kickball tournament called Kicks for Causes will take place this Saturday at Atlanta’s Silverback Stadium.  It will benefit Caring for Causes, a nonprofit organization supporting local charities, as well as the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Kicks for Causes has raised over $30,000 to benefit Susan G. Komen over the past few years and hopes to raise more this year!

Winter Beer Carnival

The 2nd Annual Winter Beer Carnival will be pouring up plenty to taste and experience this Saturday!  Last year’s event SOLD OUT in advance and this year the event is expanding to offer even more beers, carnival games and activities.  The Midtown area will be transformed into a carnival themed celebration featuring games, rides, great food and entertainment.  More than 100 beers will be available to sample- try them all and discover your favorite!

Polar Plunge at Lake Lanier Islands

The Polar Plunge is the largest fundraising effort benefiting Special Olympics.  How does it work?  Participants collect pledges in exchange for the “opportunity” to jump into icy waters of Lake Lanier.  All proceeds collected will benefit the athletes of Special Olympics Georgia.  Prizes will be awarded for the best costume, highest fundraiser and more!  For those who do not love the Polar Bear habitat, they will provide heated areas, warm concessions, and fun souvenirs.

With the new chill in the air, we are all looking for that extra little bit of warmth. What better way to celebrate bundling up than with a “Mustache Party” at the High Museum of Art. This Friday, November 5th, at 8pm all are invited to show off their real or fake mustaches–ladies included. The event will feature live music, cold beer, and a mustache contest prior to a special viewing of the movie “The Mustache” as 10pm on Sifly Piazza. Chomp & Stomp
No, this has nothing to do with any gators…here its all about the Chili. This Saturday, November 6th, Stomp on over to Cabbagetown to chow down on some of the most CRAVE-able Chili in town. The Chomp & Stomp Chili Cook-off & Festival will run from 11am to 6pm but get there EARLY because there will be some serious cooking going down and samples won’t last all day.

The Decatur Wine Festival
Metro Atlanta’s largest outdoor wine festival, this year’s Decatur Wine Festival will feature organic & sustainably produced wines along with over 350 other domestic and international selections. Tickets must be purchased in advance and are limited to only 2,000 people, so make sure you are on the list for this once a year event that is sure to be a tasty time!

Art in the Park

The scariest day of the year is almost upon us. Have you decided how to join in  on all the boos & screams?? If not, here are some of the most fabulous Halloween treasures happening around the city of Atlanta this weekend. You are sure to find something to fill that horrific CRAVE-ing for a little scare!

A Ghostly Tour
Take a stroll around the lovely railroad town of Norcross and encounter some of the “Southern Spirits” still there today. This marks the last weekend for the 2010 season of the Norcross Ghost Tour. With a round for kids starting at 7pm and an adult showing beginning at 8 or 9pm, the Norcross Ghost Tour will give you insight into some of the most infamous murders and spine-tingling mysterys in the area. Whether you decide to start your Halloween weekend off with a BOO! or end it with a scream, this ghostly time is sure to be a scare!

Big Wicked
$5,000 & a costume contest. Almost sounds too good to be true, right? Well its not if you show up for Q100′s Big Wicked 2010 this Friday beginning at 9pm. The annual event will be held at Compound in Atlanta and features a costume contest, psychics, and plam readings for all attendees. Get tickets here, dress to impress, and who knows, you may just walk home with $5,000 in your pocket.

Boos & Brews

In honor of the true Halloween Holiday, Z Gillispie and some of the best improvisers around will put on a showing of “Murder at Dracula’s Castle: A Very Special Sir John Holmes Murder Mystery.” So skip the trick-or-treating this October 31st and head out to Dad’s Garage at 8pm for a riot of a show, complete with 3 seat packages…Just Seats, Seats + 2 Drinks, or Fancy Pants Seats + 3 Drinks. Pick your poison and the laughs will be provided for a night of scary fun!

Yacht Rock the Night Away
If smooth rockin’ in the park is exactly what you CRAVE, then we have just the concert for you. This Friday, October 15, Park Tavern is hosting Yacht Rock Schooner Presents Hotel California. The band will spend the evening reliving all the easy sounds of The Eagles greatest hits. This is the perfect event to get you ready for when The Eagles really do come to Piedmont Park. So head out at 6:30pm for this pre-concent extravaganza and make sure you bring along your aviators & captain’s hat!

A Moulin Rouge Makeover
Looking for a little glam? Ready to transform yourself from Atlanta fashionista to a fabulous Paris female? A Tour of Wines

The Weekly Craving: September 29

Fall is finally in the air and we have the perfect ways to celebrate that new chill you are feeling in the air. So if you are CRAVE-ing a day full of warm fall colors, pumpkins patches, and festivals galore look no further than these fabulous events!

Trick or Treat for the Troops
Come out to Shula’s 347 Grill on September 29th for a great cause and a fabulous meal! From 7pm-10pm $5 from every burger sale and $10 from every steak sale will go directly to raising funds for the Gebhardt Groups fifth annual “Trick or Treat for the Troops” to pay for postage and to supplement the donations collected at the official “Trick or Treat for the Troops” event on October 17. Since 2006, the group has been collecting toiletries, snack foods, stationery items, cards and games, first aid items as well as letters and cards from the community and local school children, to send overseas. So help support this great cause by dining out, enjoying great music and giving back to those in uniform.

May the Best Burger Win
Who has the most CRAVE-worthy burger in Atlanta?  Head out to John Howell Park in the Virginia Highlands on October 2nd for the first ever Battle of the Burgers for the ultimate burger smackdown!  From 12-4pm 18 of Atlanta’s best restaurants are coming together, armed with Kamado grills, in a day log battle that will end with the crowning of “People’s Choice” & “Judge’s Choice” for best burger in town. But don’t worry, if a juicy burger isn’t what you CRAVE each restaurant can also enter a meatless option, along with Sweetwater brews, milkshakes, live music, and fun for all!

Jump on Over to HOToberfest
This Saturday, October 2nd, HOToberfest will be returning to Glenwood Park. As the southeast’s only consumer-judged beer competition and sustainability festival, this event  HOToberFest has been organized to promote sustainability and conscious choices that help balance the use of our natural resources, ensuring a better future for everyone. The festival is set up in two parts, a neighborhood festival of live music, sustainability information, kids area, food, art and more, AND a ticketed Oktoberfest style Beer Tasting and consumer judged craft beer competition. All proceeds from the festival will go directly to the efforts of Trees Atlanta. So come on out, support a better environment, and have all the fall fun you are CRAVE-ing!

Good Ole’ Fashioned BBQ
Whether you like it smoked, pulled, roasted, or from Texas, Carolina, Memphis, St Louis or Kentucky the Atlanta BBQ Festival has a little of everything. On October 2nd from 12-8pm, Atlantic Station will host 50 teams to compete for over $12,000 in prizes. There will also be 10 Atlanta restaurants serving up sample sizes of their specialty BBQ or you can splurge for a full plate as you enjoy some bluegrass and blues music, a kid-friendly zone, and the competition.

Field of Greens Festival
The street food movement is here on October 3rd at Whippoorwill Hallow Farm! Come out to enjoy locally grown, chef-prepared food, live music, and green living education, all in a family-friendly, fun environment. The 5th year of the Field of Greens Festival marks the first time any members of the Atlanta Street Food Coalition have been invited to participate and show what they’ve got. The festival is perfect for anyone who CRAVEs the freshest farm-to-table restaurants and foods Atlanta has to offer. With participating restaurants like Woodfire Grill and JCT Kitchen plue fabulous vendors like Indigo Bath & Body, the festival is sure to have the freshest fare and the tastiest meals all in one place.

It’s Pumpkin Time!!
What better way to get into the swing of the fall season than some pumpkin carving! But before you can carve, a trip down to the pumpkin patch is in order. Beginning October 1st and running all the way till Halloween, Stone Mountain will host its 8th Annual Pumpkin Festival every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. There are fun activities running all day long, including scavenger hunts, a great pumpkin parade, scarecrow decorating, costume contests, storytelling, pie eating contests, and many more. There is something for everyone to enjoy all the great fall weather and the holidays as well, so head on over to Stone Mountain and get the season started right!
