Indoor Fitness – Pilates, Yoga, Dancing…Oh My!
Summer is over but that doesn’t mean your workout routine has to be. Keep in shape this winter indoors. It’s nice to be able to run and exercise outside but with the winter weather approaching take it to the studio instead. We’re not just talking gyms, we’re talking yoga studios, pilates classes, etc. Here is a list of some indoor fitness studios we CRAVE.
- With a modern approach to pilates, one that blends the best of all the training schools with what works best for you, visit Modern Pilates (modernpilatesboston.com) within BodyScapes Fitness on Beacon St Boston. Modern Pilates offers equipment classes which can be private solo or private duet or trio, pre and post pardem pregnancy classes, and rehab classes.
- Core de Vie (coredevie.com) is Boston’s most unique full service lifestyle center. Offering a range of services from acupuncture, spa services and a movement studio, Core de Vie has everything you need for a healthy lifestyle under one roof. Classes include Gyrotonic®, Gyrokenisis®, Pilates and Yoga. Also pick up your workout gear at the Core de Vie store.
- “Feed your soul” at North End Yoga (northendyoga.com). Try the new community vinyasa class to combine breath with movement for only $5. Also offered is Ashtanga yoga, Mysore style Ashtanga, Yin yoga, Pilates, and Pilates Fusion. North End Yoga also offers private sessions. Owners of North End Yoga recently opened MODA, an athletic apparel store where you can get all your yoga gear.
- Another fun way to stay in shape is through dance. Check out DanceFit Studio (dancefitstudio.com) in Brookline. Owner Gina Fay offers classes in Ballet, Ballet Pilates Fusion, Cardio Dance, Hip-Hop w/ Abs, Pilates Stretch, Stretch and Tone, and Fit Abs in 15. If you love to dance this is the place for you to get fit!
The Taste of Fall
Few foods say “Autumn” like Pumpkin. And there are so many delicious ways to try this festive treat! One tasty and hearty way is in ravioli. A North End favorite, Rabia’s Butternut Squash and Pumpkin Ravilois drizzled with a sinful Gorgonzola cream sauce. This house favorite keeps customers coming back for more!
On Sundays, Finale’s soup du jour is a sweet and savory Butternut Squash and Pumpkin that is light enough to leave room for dessert.
More of a breakfast gal? The Pour House has melt-in-your-mouth Pumpkin Pancakes – truly the breakfast of champions!
Better still are the Pumpkin Spice Griddlecakes from The Neighborhood Restaurant. Sprinkled with cinnamon and paired with a dollop of whipped cream, this taste of heaven makes the perfect breakfast or dessert!
Pumpkin Desserts are also popping up as the harvest season gets into full swing. Lizzy’s Ice Cream’s low fat Spiced Pumpkin Frozen Yogurt tastes like fresh baked pumpkin pie, but without the guilt!
Across town at Henrietta’s Table in Harvard Square, diners can’t help let out an “mmmm!” as they take a bite of the Whoopie Pie with Pumpkin Ice Cream and Cinnamon CrèmeFraiche – and who can blame them? It tastes like November in your mouth!
If, by this point, your stomach isn’t already stuffed to the brim, stop by Petsi Pie to pick up some Pumpkin Maple Bars – you’ll be glad you did! With a homemade look and individual size, these sweet treats are the perfect treat for children and holiday guests. And don’t forget the classic pumpkin dessert: pumpkin pie! Petsi Pie has that, too.

The greetings cards from day*star are beautiful. All of the photography for the cards are done by Helen Eddy, the owner. On her website you can view different categories of images like local, floral, seasonal, and nautical. If you have any of your own photographs you’d like to see on a card you are able to send them to day*star and they will put them on your Thank You card.

My grandmother- she hated shopping so as a child she’d take me to the store and let me pick out her clothes!
