Claudia Hulshof is a personal stylist and owner of Sustainable Style. Her focus is on pursing a sustainable style that suits each individual, unearthing the original natural beauty with-in by examining the way someone moves, appearance, personal intensity, preference and voice.

How would you describe your business in exactly three adjectives?
Beauty, consciousness, harmony

What are your most popular products or services?
Slow makeovers, the color palettes I make for each individual person, my – free – e-zines with tips about creating a sustainable style.

People may be surprised to know…
That I am inspired by beauty in nature and art, rather than by fashion.

What or who inspired you to start your business?
I think it was myself as a young girl. I saw myself as a little girl, designing dresses for my dolls, coloring everything, combining textures and colors, I thought: this is what I always wanted to do!

Who is your role model or mentor?
Carla Mathis. She has a deep understanding of design, harmony, proportion, balance and relates it to art and nature. She uses voice color too in her work. A very interesting and nice person.

What business mistake have you made that you will not repeat?
Listening to marketing people who want to sell you their advice. Use your own intuition and brains.

How do you spend your free time?
Reading and researching, walking the dog, singing, gardening, writing.

What is your indulgence?
When I had a client visiting me, I tend to think afterwards: oh, this and that would suit him or her too… often I send e-mails afterwards with tips and pictures. I can’t easily stop advising, when a client is in my head.

Where is your favorite place to go with your girlfriends?
The dunes, or the wood.
