Qortezan: Vancouver’s Jewel in the Crown

Yaletown’s newest treasure, Qortezan, is as much an experience as a boutique. Every detail is designed to make you feel like royalty. This is a shop for women and men unlike any other. Stepping through the entryway is like parting a rich velvet curtain and entering another world. The mundane details of life slip away and you find youself in a magical theatre of sensual delight. We asked Edie Orenstein, the creator of Qortezan, to talk about what makes her new boutique so special! 

What inspired you to open Qortezan?

Opening Qortezan has been a dream I’ve had for many years! It mirrors the stage of empowerment I’m in right now as a fifty-something year-old woman. Qortezan is all about letting yourself experience life in a new, more sensual, more individual way. I’m inspired by the great courtesans of history. These were women living in restrictive socieites but beacause of their sexual wisdom and self-awareness, they were able to achieve power and freedom that was inaccessible to other women. 

What makes Qortezan unique?

Qortezan is beautiful. It’s a gorgeous, generous, sexy environment. It’s a clothing boutique for women and men that just happens to also sell sex toys in a very discreet and elegant way. In amoungst all this luxurious lingerie, the clothing, boots, books, scents, massage oils and lotions, nestle some of the most high-end, exquisitely designed intimate toys available. Pleasure is unique to everyone. This is the sort of place you could take your partner, your best friends and the list goes on! 

Anything else we should know? 

Qortezan is all about the experience so it is very theatrical. We have all kinds of performances here! Everyone is welcome to enjoy this space. It’s a safe place to look, touch, explore and be curious or just relax and drink it all in. When you let beauty into your life, you feel wonderful, your life becomes sexier, you’re more grounded and more powerful.
