Indulge In a Local Thailand Spa Escape

Friday, November 5th, 2010

Craving a getaway without the pricey flight? Get settled into soothing your day’s stresses away by indulging in one of the many calming services offered at the Sabai Thai Spa. With locations in North Vancouver and Downtown Coal Harbour it’s even easier to treat yourself to the ultimate form of traditional relaxation, because face it ladies- we deserve it! Feel yourself instantly uplifted by the sense of Thai culture and soothing ginger green tea, before pampering yourself with their Tropical Skin Package that we CRAVE.

Beginning with a cleansing scrub with your choice of green apple or coconut exfoliation, this treatment is sure to satisfy your getaway desires! A quick shower with their blueberry body wash provides just the right fruitful kick before heading into the tranquility of an appeasing apricot oil massage that will leave your body feeling refreshed and rejuvenated. To get a better sense of what inspired the woman behind the experience, we had a chance to chat with the lovely entrepreness and Spa queen herself Neata Auttapong. Here’s what she had to say:

Describe your business:
Sabai Thai Spa presents a sense of Thailand in the hustles of everyday urban life! Our dedication to care and compassion to the health and happiness of our clients is the Spa’s main drive, and the variety of traditional techniques gives our clients the exclusive Thai experience.

What inspired you to open Sabai Thai Spa?
Coming from a Thai background, it’s very important to treat our bodies to the utmost forms of relaxation to alleviate all stresses and body tensions we get from everyday life. In Thailand there is at least one spa within every block! The traditions of Thailand are what inspired me to open a spa with the matching atmosphere and services offered back home.

What is one of your favourite services from your Spa Menu?
The traditional Thai Massage, I recommend men and women of all backgrounds to try it. It’s an experience you will never forget!

What is your go-to destination with your girlfriends?
To be honest, and it comes as no surprise, the spa! I love to sit back and relax and for me there is no better way to do this than to take a break from work and indulge in massages and treatments.

As for the CRAVE gals, what’s next on our list? The Full Body Asian Fusion Aromatherapy Massage- part of their Fabulous Fall Packages!

Our experience at a Sexual Savant Salon!

Friday, October 1st, 2010

Last month, the CRAVE Team had an opportunity to experience our first “Sexual Savant Salon” hosted by the beautiful Kim Anami from Bodacious Coaching. We ventured out to one of our city’s local gems, Tart Boutique. Tucked away in Granville Island, Tart Boutique is the playhouse to sultry lingerie & sex toys – ultimately allowing us to unleash our inner seductress! Surrounded by beautiful tones of emerald red and immersed in a romantic atmosphere, we were invited to sip on a glass of wine while tasting delectable chocolate which Kim said had a magical power to it.. it was an ayurvedic aphrodisiac! Now, we had never been to a sexual salon before so this terminology appeared to be so foreign to us- Kim says that “The Sexual Savant Salons are a series of hedonistic and informative evenings presented by experts well-versed in the sensual arts. These postmodern salons are a version of the 19th century demimonde that offered a sexually permissive, intellectually adventurous haven from mainstream life.” Kim’s conversation focused on the “Art of Pleasuring a Man”- Imagine a place where inhibitions are left at the door and you can speak freely and ask your most burning questions! This IS exactly what you will receive. Kim gave us some tips on how to really tickle a male’s fancy if you know what we mean and we walked away from the salon learning more then we could have ever imagined! Kim’s knowledge about sex and willingness to share this information makes her THE ultimate know-it-all about everything and anything related to the bedroom-

Interested in learning about the art of pleasuring a man?

Seduction and what makes men tick – emotionally and physically. Fellatio, deep throat and manual techniques and tutelage for bringing him to his knees. How to fall in love with oral sex, access the male G-Spot and harness your fantasies for greater satisfaction. What every lover of men needs to know. Be sure to check out Kim in action!

Friday October 15th, 7 – 9pm. $50- (plus hst) includes aperitifs, aphrodisiac truffles, organic wine and 20% discount on purchases that evening. Click here for more information

Good-bye calories, Hello a new revolutionary Workout

Sunday, August 29th, 2010

I don’t know about you but I love to satisfy my sweet tooth cravings that I get dangerously often.  Of course, with that comes consequences: the unwanted calories.  As much as I want to burn off those calories, it’s hard to get motivated to go to the gym to run on the treadmill or the eliptical – it’s simply too boring!

That’s why I was more than delighted when I found out that The Bar Method is finally debuting in Canada!  And it gets even better – their first appearance?  Right here in VANCOUVER!

So…what exactly is The Bar Method, you may ask.  I’ve got the answer for ya.  It is an exercise program that will change your life.  It combines yoga, Pilates and ballet into an aerobic workout that will keep your heart rate up – thus helping you burn off those calories and fat.  It will give you a dancer body with toned muscles and even a better posture in no time!  So put your workout clothes on and get ready to sweat your way to the healthier and sexier you!

psssttt…if you pre-sign up for classes now, you get an amazing deal!

Q&A with Jenny and Karen of Blo Morgan Crossing

Friday, June 25th, 2010

Blo is a Blow Dry Bar. Scissors are verboten. Dye, ditto. In about 30 minutes, get a wash and blo out style. No cuts, no colour: Just WASH BLOW GO. Blo’s newest location is located at 15745 Croydon Drive in Morgan Crossing, South Surrey. Blo Morgan Crossing’s Franchise Partners, Jenny Randhawa and Karen Manhas, recognized the need for women outside the downtown core to have easy, reliable access to the affordable luxury of flawless hair, 7 days a week.

Book  your blo out at 778.294.3334 or blomedry.com

What do you love most about your job and why?
We LOVE the flexibility of managing our own hours and being our own boss.  We also love working with a group of girls that we hand picked.  It’s been great…everyone has fun and laughs and works hard at the same time!

Getting women red carper ready is also a great feeling.  Watching a woman’s confidence go up in a matter of minutes with a simple blo out is the best thing that we have experienced so far.

We also love what we do because we come from completely different, and serious, professional backgrounds (healthcare and federal government) so getting involved with Blo has been such a fun, exciting and completely opposite of what we are used to doing professionally. We keep thinking that we are supposed to be stressed out and worried like new business owners should be but so far we have been fortunate.  We have had such strong and endless support from Blo Corporate Office and our friends and family. It’s made us LOVE our job even more!

Do you have any recommendations for business reads for women in business?
We are always on the look out for inspiring ideas and lessons on managing our team and business. We are new to owning a business so basically anything we can get our hands on we will read and learn from.

What do you CRAVE?
We definitely CRAVE chocolate everyday! Thank god we are on our feet everyday because we can work those calories off! The sun, sand and beach are obvious favorites too…hopefully we can get away sometime this year and get our Vitamin D dose!

Any advice for future entreprenesses?
Starting a business can be scary and you may not know what direction to go in. Step One: ask a million questions! Look in your network of friends and family who have been successful (professionally and personally) and talk to them about your goals and how you plan to get there.  Get their feedback and really listen to what they have to offer.  They’re firsthand knowledge and lessons learned are invaluable. Last but not least is to follow your gut.  We strongly believe women have that special instincts, so if you have a really strong feeling something is going to be successful, go for it, work hard and things will fall into place!

Insight From Makeup Artist, Sheila Patel

Friday, May 21st, 2010

Whether it’s just a hint of blush on our cheeks, a swab of lipgloss to our puckers, or a brush of mascara to our batting eyelashes, we all want to look and feel our best! However, with the plethora of make-up options out there, finding the right products can be quite overwhelming…what color foundation to use, what eyeshadows look best on a brown-eyed beauty, liquid eyeliner or pencil??? This is where renowned make-up artist, Sheila Patel comes into the picture. With a trained eye, a steady and skilled hand, she applies the right mixture of shadows and powders…Voila! You have your own customized look. Here is her expert advice and a video featuring the “Artist at Work”, enjoy!

What was the inspiration or motivation behind starting your business?

My sister in law, Xuan Thu Pham encouraged me to get back to doing something that I have excelled in in the past and all the credit goes to her for my getting back in.

What mistake have you made in your business that you will not repeat?

Overscheduling. Earlier on in my career when I just started out, there was a time when I was working continuously from one makeup client to another in a single day. Because I worked with more clients than I could manage in one day, I felt that I did not put in the effort and time that each client deserved. I wanted to give the focus and attention to each person, but with time against me, I was not able to do that. From that experience on, I never did that again. Each customer is special to me and I’ll only work on a client at a time – that is my philosophy.

What is your favorite make-up brand?

I like different makeup brands for different reasons. I use MAC, Shu Uemura, Glauca Rossi, NARS, Makeup Forever, Ben Nye, and Kryolan. In fact, I have so many different brands in my professional makeup toolbox that I can’t name all the brands I enjoy using. Each brand is uniquely used for different purposes and events such as TV or weddings. As an everyday favorite makeup brand, I like Bobbi Brown.

What defines the Bollywood style? Do you think it would cross-over to the U.S.?

I’m glad you asked me this question because so many people have different notions of what the “Bollywood style” is and what it really means. Coming from Mumbai and having worked with Bollywood and MTV – I see the different perceptions of how people view Bollywood. What defines the Bollywood style has more to do with what you see on a film set: the movie scenes, dance scenes, and the ensemble of women who dress up in extravagant attire along with the extravagant makeup to go with it. Bollywood is about glamour, visual performance artistry, and telling a story.

This is why a Bollywood style is not suitable for everyday looks. If you’ve ever seen a wedding scene from a Bollywood film, you’ll notice the rich colors, embroideries, and magnificent jewelry that the women are wearing. Also notice their makeup – it’s created and done up to be very dramatic. When you wear such beautiful clothes, your face is competing with it and pales in comparison to what you’re wearing. That’s why it has to look very dramatic.

I think it the Bollywood look can absolutely cross over to the U.S. if it’s in the wedding space. However, with everyday looks, it might be too much, especially without the costumes. But if you’re up for that look for yourself, why not?

What is your favorite make-up look for spring/summer?

I have this secret passion for the orange and yellow color theme. If it’s done well, it can really work for you. Case in point: you can use a yellow eyeshadow

and apply it over your eyelids. Then use an orange eyeshadow to contour the lids as well as the edges. Next, you can define your eyes with black eyeliner and mascara – and voila. Most people think they can’t use these colors, but you can!

What is the most common make-up mistakes you see people make?

Mismatched foundation has to be the topper on the list. This is the most common mistake I’d like to see people stop making. Coming from an Asian country, there is an obsession to have fair skin. People try to correct that by using light foundation. The end result? Your skin will end up looking grey. Also, some people tend to incorrectly use bronzers or foundation that’s too dark for them, which are really too orange for one’s face. This looks hideous.

A good indicator of using the proper foundation for yourself is to reference it in natural sunlight. Typically, when you buy it in the mall under fluorescent lighting, it’s easy to make the mistake of buying the wrong color for your skintone. What you can do is apply a small amount from the tester on your skin – step outside and see if it matches your skin. Just be true to your skin tone and be proud of your natural beauty.
