Put A Twi$t On Your Business Model

Wednesday, August 3rd, 2011

As a business owner I know you are working very hard in your business, serving clients and staying on top over everything else that needs to be managed.

But what if all the hard work you are currently doing is not necessarily the most effective way to grow your business?

A solid business is built around a business model that works. If you think you have a great business model in place then it will only take a few minutes to confirm that this is the case.

If you aren’t quite sure if your business model is functioning optimally, now is the perfect time to give it a quick check-up and find out.

When I talk about your business model I simply mean the way your business makes money. Think about these basic components:

* Your business offer products and services

* You sell them for a certain price

* A certain number of people buy them (once or even better, repeatedly)

* You deliver them in a certain way (in person, electronically, third party, etc.)

Why not revisit your business model to see if there are a few ways you can change it. This doesn’t have to be complicated, simply take a piece of paper and a pen or open a new file on your computer.

Write down all the products and services your business currently offers, the price for each, how many clients you have who purchase each offer and how frequently. Total this up, subtract your costs, and see if this structure is going to bring you the financial results you want.

Now imagine how many different ways you can upgrade your business model to attract more business and leverage what you already have.

Get creative and try out several combinations of products and services. Here are some ideas:

- Perhaps you can add something new, additional revenue streams.

- You can also think about increasing the amount of what you already deliver.

- Or maybe at this point it’s even best to remove a part that isn’t profitable.

- Consider changing the way you deliver your products and services.

- What if you didn’t change a thing except to increase the prices (speaking or pricing, when is that last time you increased the prices for your products and services)?

Let’s use the business model of a consultant as an example.

CURRENT BUSINESS MODEL

Product/Service: Consulting services delivered by the consultant alone

Price: Per hour

Clients: One at a time full time or two to three part-time

Delivery: In person

UPDATED BUSINESS MODEL

Product/Service: Consulting in person delivered by the consultant, additional consultants working for you, speaking, selling intellectual property (an ebook, audio, or other information product)

Price: Consulting per project (and part of the fee for consultants working on behalf of the consultant), speaking per event, intellectual property per item

Clients: Many at one time

Delivery: In person, automated (via the internet)

Are you starting to see the possibilities for your business? Renewing your business model can re-inspire your enthusiasm for what you do as well as increase your desire for marketing your business.

A healthy business model is the foundation for a successful business. Take time to examine your business model and make sure it is the strongest it can be.

With a few simple changes, you will probably make more money and you may even find that you don’t have to work as hard to do so. Now who doesn’t want that!

What do you love most about fashion?

I love the ability to reinvent yourself with every season. Figuring out how to adopt the newest trend and make it work for your personality and lifestyle make fashion an ongoing experiment, which I find utterly fascinating.

What are the top 5 looks and must-haves for the Fall?

So many great looks to choose from! Fall is definitely my favorite fashion season – my must-haves include:

  • A great, long camel coat (Smythe’s cadet coat is my absolute favorite).
  • A piece of faux fur, whether it be a vest or cropped jacket.
  • Military influenced jackets and tops in the season’s deep olive/ army color.
  • A great jegging. This trend is not only sticking around but there are limitless options! Rich&Skinny legacy jeggings are high on my must-have list.
  • You can never go wrong with a classic cashmere duster- this is the ultimate piece to take your wardrobe smoothly from Summer into the Fall season!
One piece of advice you would give to aspiring entreprenesses?
Do your homework! You’d be amazed at how far you can take your business if you take your time to put together a strong business plan and research your market.
Who is your fashion icon?
Coco Chanel- we could all learn a thing or two about effortless style from Coco.

Our experience at a Sexual Savant Salon!

Friday, October 1st, 2010

Last month, the CRAVE Team had an opportunity to experience our first “Sexual Savant Salon” hosted by the beautiful Kim Anami from Bodacious Coaching. We ventured out to one of our city’s local gems, Tart Boutique. Tucked away in Granville Island, Tart Boutique is the playhouse to sultry lingerie & sex toys – ultimately allowing us to unleash our inner seductress! Surrounded by beautiful tones of emerald red and immersed in a romantic atmosphere, we were invited to sip on a glass of wine while tasting delectable chocolate which Kim said had a magical power to it.. it was an ayurvedic aphrodisiac! Now, we had never been to a sexual salon before so this terminology appeared to be so foreign to us- Kim says that “The Sexual Savant Salons are a series of hedonistic and informative evenings presented by experts well-versed in the sensual arts. These postmodern salons are a version of the 19th century demimonde that offered a sexually permissive, intellectually adventurous haven from mainstream life.” Kim’s conversation focused on the “Art of Pleasuring a Man”- Imagine a place where inhibitions are left at the door and you can speak freely and ask your most burning questions! This IS exactly what you will receive. Kim gave us some tips on how to really tickle a male’s fancy if you know what we mean and we walked away from the salon learning more then we could have ever imagined! Kim’s knowledge about sex and willingness to share this information makes her THE ultimate know-it-all about everything and anything related to the bedroom-

Going Green since 1981!

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

We all know that the green, eco-friendly trend is growing and becoming the next cool thing – thank goodnes, it is so much needed!  But there is a fabulous woman who has been providing sustainable alternatives from way before this trend began: Irma McInnis of Dream Designs!

Her company was established back in 1981 with Irma’s passion for natural lifestyles.  Her line not only includes clothing but also yoga mats, cushions and bedding, of course all made with sustainable fibres.  Oh, but it doesn’t just end there.  Irma also has Chakra Lounge which holds a studio space and a treatment room to encourage natural healing – how cool is that?

CRAVE is super excited to have Dream Designs in our book!  Make sure to check it out and do your part in saving the planet!

Located in the heart of Gastown, Burke & Hair has been selected as one of Canada’s Top Salons by FASHION Magazine – so you know you are going to walk out with a fab new do at the end of your appointment!  Another bonus: you can get a gorgeous view of the Northshore mountains while getting pampered.

Fab for real women!

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

As much as we may wish to look like those stick-skinny models on runway shows, the truth is… we don’t.  And to be quite honest, I think it’s a good thing.  Only a miniscule percentage of women are actually 00 in size.  Instead of wishing to be like them, we should appreciate and be proud of the way we are and that, is the philosophy at Babs Studio Boutique. Rather than making clothes that most people can’t wear, the designers at Babs Studio Boutique cater to real women.  They make fabulous pieces for all women of all shapes and sizes.  Pay them a little visit in South Granville and you are bound to find something that fits you PERFECTLY.  Real sizes for real women – like you and I – at Babs!

Get your confidence on!

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010

Ladies, we all know what it feels like to be a little insecure or to second-guess ourselves or to skip out on opportunities because we are scared of being inadequate.  We often wonder what the world thinks of us.  What we often forget to remember is that the world only sees what we show them.  If we are scared, they see a scaredy-cat; if we are sad, they see a Debbie-downer but if we are confident, they see a self-assured woman who is ready to taking on anything!

Of course, it is not so easy to respect ourselves and be optimistic ALL THE TIME! Good news?  There’s Suzanne Fetting from Absolute Confidence.  As a firm believer in authentic confidence, it is her mission to inspire and empower women and to teach them to love themselves.  Her services vary from Personal Confidence Coaching to High Heel Appeal.  Whichever service you decide to take on, she will for sure help you discover your inner strength.

Remember ladies, love yourselves because you are unique and beautiful!
